back to the garden

We are taught to understand the protests and rising unrest throughout the country through a political or cultural framework. The reality is far more fundamental to what it means to be human. Each of us has an internal sense that we were meant for more than this, that we have greater value. The world around us works to squash that sense. In today’s podcast devotional JB Shreve looks at the human experience and the desire to go back to the garden even while life tells us we are nothing but dust.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3:7

By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:19

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
