The brutality of the Islamic Republic of Iran is seldom questioned but in case it ever is, here are some numbers that demonstrate the severity of Iran’s rule of law. The number of executions in Iran has decreased in recent years but the Islamic Republic is remains of the world’s leading executioners.

7 Children were executed by the government of Iran last year. This is according to an independent human rights expert.

2 Children have been executed in Iran so far in 2019.

90 Children are currently on death row in Iran.

97 Children have been executed in Iran between 1990 and 2018.

Iran has one of the highest execution rates in the world. There have been an estimated 173 executions this year which is actually a sharp decline from prior years where the average executions in Iran have averaged 380 per year since 2017.

Methods of executions in Iran over the last 20 years vary. They include hanging, stoning, and shooting. In 2008 a man was thrown from the height of a building. This was the last time this method of execution is known to have been used in Iran.

Since 2018 at least 8 prominent human rights lawyers have been arrested in Iran for defending political prisoners. Several of these have received lengthy prison terms.

32 People, mostly women, have been arrested in Iran for protesting compulsory veiling laws – laws that require women to be veiled.
