One of the byproducts of Donald Trump’s victory in 2016 was a large migration of many former Republicans, including Christian Republicans, to the ranks of the Libertarian Party. Libertarianism is a political philosophy focused upon liberty and individual responsibility, usually with a bias against big government. Over the last four years Libertarians have frequently been among those taking principled, versus partisan, stands against both President Trump and the Democrats.
My guest today is Doug Stuart of the Libertarian Christian Institute (LCI). Doug is CEO of LCI and holds a MDiv from Biblical Seminary. He currently lives with his wife and three children in Central Pennsylvania, where he runs a video production and graphic design company. He attends an evangelical church where he has taught classes on film and culture, evangelism, faith and economics, and non-violence.
LCI’s website describes Libertarianism as “the most consistent expression of Christian political thought.” So today JB Shreve talks to Doug about libertarianism, what it means to be a libertarian Christian, and much more.
This is part 4 in our brief series on Christian political perspectives here at the End of History. You can find the other episodes here.
